Skill in Action
Through workshops, trainings, and community spaces, Skill in Action supports people in exploring how their practice can help build a more just and equitable world. Our work is grounded in the belief that healing and justice are connected - that the way we show up in our yoga practice shapes how we show up in the world. This is a space for learning, unlearning, and practicing together—with honesty, care, and intention.
Project Goals
Skill in Action has been a guiding place for many people practicing yoga through the lens of justice. Over the years the site expanded from the book to holding more and more offerings, teachings, and resources. It was time for it to breathe again. So, with the addition of the new on-demand course as well a growing team of facilitators, the site was re-designed to feel clear, steady, and reflective of where the work is now.
What Was Needed
The old site had grown slowly over time. It was not wrong. It was just full. When I stepped into the redesign, I didn’t run a big strategy process. I simply did what felt true based on:
years of engaging with Michelle’s work
knowing how people move through this kind of content
noticing where the site felt confusing
sensing what needed space and what needed clarity
-
Instead of creating a complicated blueprint, I paid attention.
I looked for:
where people may feel lost
pages that carried too much information
places that needed quiet
offerings that needed to be centered
moments that needed softness
From there, I rebuilt the site section by section.
More breath. More ease. More guidance. -
Skill in Action’s work is deep and steady. The design needed to reflect that. So, these were the choices made:
Warmed up the existing color palette and added a pop of a warm red for the boldness of the work.
Clear and legible typography that does not distract.
Spacious layouts that let the words land.
Soft transitions and visual rhythm.
Simple navigation that gently guides people to what they need
